The Great TREK - #22

July the 28th -  Our 6th Leg

Today I decided to take my son to the Montecasino Bird Gardens. It is the only bird garden of its kind in Africa with its walk-through Aviary with its 60 species of birds, including Scarlet Ibises, Nicobar Pigeons, reptiles and small mammals, with smaller antelope wandering freely on the undergrowth.
We first started at the “Flight of fantasy show” then started our walk through the Gardens itself. Wonderful.

The bird garden also has the largest and most diverse private collection of South African Cycads in the World, with over 750 plants including one of the oldest surviving, estimated to be over 2500 years old.

The Montecasino complex was inspired by the 15th Century Palazzo Corsini the lies on the slopes between the Gianicolo and Tiber River in Italy.
