Maputo Experience

Sunday Afternoons in Maputo Bay

All photos made with the amazing FUJI X-T1 or the FUJI X100T.

Finally got the time to take a walk on one of the most well know spots by the beach were Mozambicans relax on their weekends, namely this was on Sunday afternoon. This spot is part of the very long coastal roads of Maputo, actually crossing right around the city.

This is always like this, were people gather around friends, to eat, drink, listen to loud music and simply chill out on the weekend afternoons.
We are still in winter (today the temperature reached 30ÂșC), image during peak summer, it get extremely hot and humid.

I parked my car and just saw a massive amount of people by the beach, sitting, swimming, having the special and traditional Chicken Peri-Peri or grilled fresh fish (caught that morning) and... lots of drinking, dancing, enjoying themselves, whole families, friends.

As I started to walk, and see if it was ok for me to make photographs, I was approached by two young men asking to take a picture of them. Wow, this is a surprise, as I have been told, that, overall Mozambicans don't like their pictures been taken. Not so, As I walked on the sand dunes, and by the beach, more and more people asked for me to take their photos, amazing surprise. Obviously I did and quite enjoyed it, as mt photo walk became easier.

Experience

Here are some of the photos I picked from this photo walk with my FUJI X100T, a fantastic camera for this kind of work.

Nothing like you having good times with your friends on a lovely Winter Sunday Afternoon.

Maputo Street Views III

A Quick walk

Did a quick walk to see if this loop has any potential for a more relaxed photo walk.

What I love to do is "break the ice" by giving away a print of the photo a make, and print on the fabulous FUJI INSTAX share SP-1 printer, staright from my FUJI X-T1 or my FUJI X100T using wi-fi.

It works wonders and the expression I get from the people is priceless.

These were my subjects for the portrait, where afterwards, I gave them a print.
Check out their reaction on the next photo....

Maputo Street views part II

A short Photo Walk

Last Sunday afternoon, I took another short late afternoon walk and brought my FUJI X100T with me for another photo walk.

As it was already getting late (17h) and the light was not the best, the was was a short one, but I managed to get some interesting shots.

Maputo Street Views

Photo Walk

Today I decided to take a walk so I grabbed my FUJI X100T and off I went into the streets close to where we are living in Maputo.

It is a very different feeling as I am still uncomfortable to walk in a relaxed manner, As I can see the local people looking at me in a odd manner, but then it must be me, as I have been robbed in Mozambique of photographic equipment to the value of 3000€.

The walk was nice, the afternoon winter son already with a beautiful warm colour was setting in, so I just walked for 1 hour.

The interesting thing I found was that the younger people are more open to people taking photos of them (actually ask you to take their photos), while the older people do not like their photos been taken.

I always take my FUJI INSTAX Share SP-1 Printer with me so that I can offer some photos to the people I find interesting. Today I gave away 2 photos (the kids and the security guard). They can not believe how I do it instantly. Its like magic to them.

Anyway here is the result of my afternoon Photo walk.

Hlane Royal National Park - Swaziland

A Weekend at the Royal National Park

All photos made with the amazing FUJI X-T1 or the FUJI X100T.

Last June we decided to spend the weekend in Swaziland, namely at the Hlane Royal National Park.

It was the first time my wife and son went to Swaziland, which the park is only about 130km from Maputo.

We saw lots of Elephant, Rhino, Giraffes but no Lions. Maybe next time.
Hlane Royal National Park, is home to the largest herds of game in the Kingdom, encompasses 22,000 hectares of Swazi bushveld dominated by ancient hardwood vegetation. Home to Lion, Elephant, White Rhino, Giraffe and a whole host of other species.

The park has two rest camps: Ndlovu and Bhubesi. We slept over at Bhubesi, complete calmness and silent overlooking the River (dry season). Bhubesi is located 14km from Ndlovu Camp and can be accessed by self-driving through the parks internal roads. The camp encapsulates six self-contained and self-catering beautiful stone cottages with all the comforts of home, including electricity.
